Scottish Water is alerting residents and drivers in the Cathcart area of Glasgow about upcoming road disruptions due to essential works on the local water mains. The project, costing £900,000, will kick off on Monday, August 26, and is expected to last for a duration of 24 weeks.

Throughout the project, there will be a series of traffic management measures in place to ensure the safety of both workers and the public. This will include temporary traffic lights, road closures, and certain access and parking restrictions. Clear directional signage will be put up at each phase of the work to guide road users.

A representative from Scottish Water acknowledged that these works may cause inconvenience to the local community but emphasized the long-term benefits of having improved water mains. They assured that efforts will be made to minimize disruptions as much as possible, and a dedicated team will be on-site to address any questions or concerns from residents.

The traffic management plan will commence on Old Castle Road with a two-week single lane closure starting on August 26. Subsequently, parking restrictions will be enforced on Kilmailing Road from September 4 for about two weeks. Taynish Drive is expected to be closed for a period of two weeks starting around September 20.

Temporary traffic lights and on-street parking restrictions will be implemented at the junction of Carmunock Road and Elmore Avenue from October 3 for approximately two weeks. This will then shift to the junction of Elmore Avenue and Old Castle Road/Snuffmill Road on October 23 for about three weeks.

Various phases of temporary traffic lights and parking restrictions will be carried out along Elmore Avenue on October 16 for approximately one week, November 13 for about one week, and January 15 for around three weeks. The final phase of the project will focus on Carna Drive from November 25 for approximately six weeks, with temporary traffic lights and parking restrictions in place during this period.

The purpose of these works is to ensure that residents in the area continue to receive clean drinking water. The project is being undertaken in collaboration with Caledonia Water Alliance. Regular updates on the progress of the works can be found on the Scottish Water website for the convenience of locals and visitors alike.
