Andi Weimann recently shared his experiences of a unique summer after participating in the European Championship as a free agent and eventually securing a move to Blackburn Rovers.
Weimann, who left Bristol City when his contract ended on June 30, found himself in an unfamiliar situation as he prepared for the Euros quarter-final with Turkey. This marked the first time in his career that he faced uncertainty between moves, having always been under contract in the past. With a footballing background that includes Aston Villa, Derby County, and Bristol City, Weimann’s talent in England is well-established.
The Austrian forward revealed that he took the initiative to contact clubs he believed might be interested in his services, seeking opportunities to train with them. Blackburn Rovers’ John Eustace responded positively, and within a week, Weimann signed a one-year deal with the club.
Reflecting on his decision, Weimann emphasized that he viewed the training period as a potential opportunity rather than a trial. His main goal was to find a club that could offer him a future, and he was pleased that Blackburn Rovers showed interest in signing him.

However, he believes that his skills are best utilized in the number 10 role, playing behind the main striker. This position could become crucial for Rovers if Sam Szmodics departs.
