Aberdeen is set to undergo a pre-historic transformation this October with the arrival of a captivating Lego Dinosaur Trail right in the heart of the city. Iconic Bricks, a renowned toy model creator, will be bringing this exciting attraction to Aberdeen for a two-week event running from 12th to 27th October. The initiative has been made possible through a generous £30,000 grant from the UK Government, allowing families and visitors to embark on a thrilling adventure filled with awe-inspiring dinosaur models.
Internationally acclaimed toy brick model builder Duncan Titmarsh, famous for crafting the world’s largest Lego model in the form of London’s iconic Tower Bridge, spearheads this project. The Dinosaur Trail promises to captivate audiences of all ages, featuring a diverse array of dinosaur models strategically placed across the city center. Visitors can look forward to encountering 18 brick dinosaur models, including fan-favorites like the Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and adorable baby dinosaurs.
Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Christian Allard expressed his enthusiasm for this upcoming event, stating, “This is a fantastic event to look forward to during the school holidays and will be a great family day out.” He encourages everyone to participate in this engaging trail, urging them to explore various local businesses scattered throughout the city center.
Education and Children’s Services Convener Councillor Martin Greig emphasized the educational value of the dinosaur activity, highlighting it as a unique opportunity for children to have fun and learn more about the natural world. Dinosaurs have long been a source of fascination for young minds, and this trail aims to provide an enjoyable and enlightening experience for all participants.
As participants traverse the Dinosaur Trail, they will gain insight into the intricate process of model creation, learning fascinating details about each dinosaur model, such as the number of bricks used in its construction and additional information about the species. Moreover, the Hidden Lego Minifigure Competition adds an element of excitement, encouraging individuals of all ages to engage in a treasure hunt-style challenge by locating small Lego figurines hidden in ten shop windows around the Upperkirkgate and Belmont Street area. Participants have the chance to enter a prize draw upon finding each minifigure, with the opportunity to win Aberdeen Gift Cards worth £20.
