Stagecoach West Scotland introduced 12 brand-new electric midibuses in Ayrshire. These buses, known as Enviro100EV, are the first of their kind in the world and are built by Alexander Dennis in Scotland. This £5 million investment will contribute to the all-electric bus routes in Ayrshire, with a total of 60 electric buses in Stagecoach’s fleet.
The introduction of these smaller EV buses will benefit local communities by providing emission-free transportation that can navigate through areas inaccessible to larger buses. The Enviro100EV buses operate on a single daily charge, offering customers onboard USB charging points and contactless payment options.
During the unveiling event at Stagecoach’s Ayr depot, guests, including local MSPs, had the opportunity to see the new midibuses up close. Managing Director Fiona Doherty expressed the company’s commitment to decarbonizing their fleet and providing zero-emission transport to communities in Ayr, Irvine, and Kilmarnock.
The President & Managing Director of Alexander Dennis, Paul Davies, highlighted the innovative features of the Enviro100EV buses, such as their battery capacity, range, and future-proof design. These buses are part of Stagecoach’s efforts to achieve a zero-emission bus fleet by 2035.
In addition to the new buses, Stagecoach has installed 21 new charging stations at their Kilmarnock and Ayr depots, further supporting the transition to electric buses in the region.
This significant investment not only marks a milestone in sustainable transportation but also showcases the collaboration between Stagecoach and Alexander Dennis in pioneering electric bus technology. With the addition of these electric midibuses, Ayrshire residents can look forward to a greener and more efficient public transportation system.
