More than 100,000 homes and businesses in the Highlands are set to receive a boost in their internet connectivity with a significant £10 million investment in ultrafast broadband. The Scottish National Investment Bank (SNIB) announced this latest investment in Highland Broadband to address digital inequality in regions like the Black Isle, Great Glen, and Cairngorms.
The SNIB’s previous investments of £20 million in 2021 and another £20 million in 2023 played a crucial role in enabling Highland Broadband to establish superfast broadband networks in areas such as East Lothian, Stirlingshire, Fife, and the Highlands north of Inverness. Highland Broadband, a company dedicated to bringing ultrafast full-fibre broadband to rural and semi-rural communities across Scotland, estimates that approximately half a million premises in the country still lack access to gigabit-capable broadband networks.
