The Great British National Strike protest was happening at the steps of Buchanan Galleries and they were met by anti-racism protestors who had a counter demonstration. It all went down in Glasgow, Scotland where tensions were high between the two opposing groups. The National Strike protestors, known for their Free Tommy Robinson banners, were labeled as a far right protest by many.
The group wasn’t just causing a ruckus in Glasgow though, as they were also making noise in Aberdeen, Dumfries, Dundee, Edinburgh, Inverness, and Perth, along with various cities and towns in England. They were vocal about their opposition to ‘illegal immigration, net zero and two-tier justice’ among other issues. The police had to step in to separate the two sets of protestors, creating a tense standoff between the groups.
The scene in Glasgow was intense, with groups like the Glasgow Trades Council, Cabaret Against Hate Speech, and the Afghan Human Rights Foundation joining Stand Up To Racism for counter-protests. The pictures captured the moment when the two groups were divided by a line of police, shouting across at each other from their respective sides. Chants of “Fascist Scum, Off Our Streets” echoed through the air, adding to the charged atmosphere of the protest. It was a clash of ideologies and beliefs, with both sides standing their ground and making their voices heard.
