Dundee have gone and roped in Hollywood actor Brian Cox to help out with a new teaser for their Camperdown stadium project. The club won’t be making the move to the new ground for a few more years, though, as they’re still based at their current home, Dens Park.
Born and bred in Dundee, Cox is best known for his role in the hit TV series ‘Succession’ and has bagged a whopping 21 Emmys over his long and successful acting career. At 79 years old, he was given the task of providing the voiceover for a YouTube video teasing the club’s upcoming stadium. “Jute, jam, journalism – Gilzean, Shankly, Cox… no, not that one,” he quipped in the teaser.
John Nelms, who wears the hats of Director of Dark Blue Property Holdings and Managing Director of Dundee FC, expressed his gratitude to Brian for lending his voice to the project. He mentioned, “We’ve always made it clear that we want to honor the memory of the Dens and pay tribute to Archibald Leitch’s architectural genius in the design of the new stadium. Having a local legend like Brian on board adds a touch of Hollywood glamour to the project.”
The club finds themselves fighting to avoid the drop in the Scottish Premiership, currently sitting second from the bottom. Despite a tough upcoming match against in-form Hibernian, the team will have a chance to secure their top-flight status in the post-split fixtures. They are just one point behind Ross County and Kilmarnock, who occupy the ninth and tenth spots on the table.
In the grand scheme of things, it’s unclear why this matters so much, but Dundee FC are hoping that the Hollywood touch from Brian Cox will bring some buzz to their stadium project. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like a pretty cool move for a local lad to get involved in such a big way.
It’s not every day that you see a Hollywood star getting involved in local sports projects, so kudos to Dundee for pulling off this unexpected collaboration. Who knows, maybe this added star power will help the team on the pitch as well.
As the club gears up for the big move to Camperdown, fans can look forward to more exciting announcements in the coming weeks. With any luck, the project will sail through the Planning Permission in Principle stage and Dundee FC can start planning for their future in their new home.
So, as the team battles it out on the pitch to secure their spot in the top division, they can take comfort in knowing that they have the support of not just their loyal fans, but also a Hollywood heavyweight like Brian Cox. It may not guarantee success, but it sure adds an extra layer of excitement to the journey ahead.
