A group of friends in Glasgow, Scotland, came up with the idea to create the first-ever coffee tequila brand in the country. Kieran Woods, Stewart Weir, and Adam Alzadjally saw an opportunity in the market after their favorite drink, Cafe Patrón, was discontinued. The trio worked closely with The Hacienda, Casa Reyes D’Barjas in Mexico, the second-oldest tequila distillery in the world, to create a premium coffee-infused tequila. Made with 100% Blue Weber Agave, the highest quality on the market, Jalisgow is a Mexican spirit with a Scottish heart.
Initially planning to produce the tequila in Scotland, the team faced a setback when a key ingredient did not arrive on time. This led them to establish a close relationship with the distillery in Mexico and produce the drink there. The decision was reinforced by a nod from the universe when they saw commercial oven doors from the Clyde shipbuilding industry being used in Mexico to cook their Agave.
When it came to taste tests, the team focused on creating a drink that catered to what people in the UK wanted. They lowered the alcohol by volume (ABV) to 30% to make it more enjoyable to drink without the typical tequila burn. Jalisgow can be enjoyed in various ways, whether over ice or in a cocktail.
Upon introducing Jalisgow to the people of Scotland, the team quickly secured listings in 45 Glasgow bars within 10 days. The warm reception from the local community and their dedication to supporting homegrown products played a significant role in their success.
