Laura Schosloff shared the heartbreaking story of her late brother, Bernard Cowan, who was tragically killed by Hamas during the October 7 attacks in Kibbutz Sufa. Bernard, a beer-loving man with a passion for scuba diving and gardening, had built a wonderful life in Israel with his wife, Margaret.
Laura described Bernard as a kind and welcoming person who loved to host barbecues for friends and family. His collection of bottle openers and fridge magnets from around the world showcased his adventurous spirit. Unfortunately, Bernard became one of the 1,180 Israeli citizens killed on that fateful day, leaving his family devastated.
The attack on the kibbutz by Hamas resulted in the loss of many innocent lives, including Bernard’s. Laura recounted the harrowing experience of learning about her brother’s death and the impact it had on their family. She emphasized the need to remember the victims of such senseless violence and called for justice.
Despite the ongoing conflict in the region, Laura expressed her desire for peace and the safe return of the hostages still held by Hamas. She highlighted the plight of both Israeli and Palestinian families affected by the violence, urging for an end to the cycle of suffering and loss. Laura’s poignant words shed light on the human cost of war and the importance of valuing every life, regardless of nationality or beliefs.
