A family-run camping ground at the foot of the Ochil hills in Stirling has been named Scotland’s Campsite of the Year by the Automobile Association (AA). Witches Craig Caravan & Camping Park, managed by the Dewar family for almost 40 years, received this prestigious award for the second time. The park is praised for its attention to detail and its location in the picturesque ‘Braveheart country’.
Witches Craig is graded as an exceptional 5-star touring park by VisitScotland and has received other awards such as the “Loo of the Year” and a David Bellamy “Gold” Conservation award. The park, previously named Campsite of the Year in 2015, continues to attract visitors from across Scotland and beyond.
Veda Dewar, the owner of the campsite, expressed her surprise and delight at receiving the award. She thanked the AA for recognizing their hard work and dedication over the years and expressed gratitude to all their customers. While the campsite is currently closed for the winter, they are eagerly looking forward to the 2025 season.
Inspectors who visited the park this year found it to be picturesque and welcoming with exceptional facilities for motorhomes, caravans, and campers in tents. The park’s mature landscaping, beautifully maintained grounds, and colorful shrubs and plants impressed the inspectors. Attention to detail is evident throughout the park, including the immaculate toilet block and quirky metal statues and themed carvings from tree trunks.
The touring pitches at Witches Craig are set in small areas to provide a sense of seclusion, while tents are located in a well-drained field with cooking shelters and picnic benches. Visitors, whether first-timers or returning campers, are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome from Veda and her staff. The park’s proximity to historical sites and a local bus service to Stirling make it a popular destination for families.
Witches Craig will be featured in the AA’s guide for the upcoming season as Scotland’s best campsite. The AA’s awards recognized 12 exceptional sites across the UK for their outstanding quality and commitment to customer satisfaction. Categories included AA Glamping Site of the Year, AA Campsite of the Year, and AA Most Improved Campsite of the Year.
This year’s winners span the UK, from the Isle of Anglesey in Wales to the South Downs of West Sussex. Tyddyn Isaf Caravan Park on the Isle of Anglesey was named the overall winner of the UK’s Campsite of the Year. Simon Numphud, Managing Director at AA Media, highlighted the winners’ dedication to eco-friendly practices and customer satisfaction, making them excellent options for UK travelers.
