The Royal Navy’s HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier has recently docked in Scotland for resupply. The massive 65,000-tonne vessel is now berthed at Glen Mallan on Loch Long in Argyll and Bute. This stop is essential for the carrier to undergo ammunitioning, trials, and other defense-related activities.
One of the key aspects of this resupply mission is the replenishment of supplies from the Glen Douglas munitions depot. The depot recently underwent a significant £69 million upgrade in 2021 to ensure it meets the needs of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet, including the HMS Queen Elizabeth, the sister ship of HMS Prince of Wales.
The Northern Ammunition Jetty at Glen Mallan plays a crucial role in facilitating the resupply of ammunition to the Royal Navy’s fleet. Workers wasted no time in unloading heavy crates filled with supplies and loading them onto the aircraft carrier.
Once the resupply operation is complete, HMS Prince of Wales is expected to set sail again. While there is no specific timeline for her departure, the carrier is scheduled to make a visit to Liverpool in December. During this visit, the public will have the opportunity to tour the ship and witness firsthand one of the most powerful warships ever constructed in the UK.
Tickets for the event in Liverpool have already been sold out, with an estimated 20,000 individuals eager to explore the impressive vessel. This visit not only allows the public to appreciate the technological advancements and capabilities of the HMS Prince of Wales but also serves as a reminder of the Royal Navy’s commitment to maintaining a strong and modern fleet to safeguard the nation’s security and interests.
