A developer working on a project to build around 650 homes on the land of a golf club has emphasized the urgent need for new private and affordable homes in the area. Hallam Land, the developer, in collaboration with Dullatur Golf Club, aims to create a sustainable new neighborhood with much-needed homes and community facilities.
The project is set to be reviewed by the full council on November 27th, with the developer highlighting the increasing demand for both private and affordable homes in the region. The plans also address the necessity for an improved local road network and better active travel routes.
A significant aspect of the project is the allocation of 25% of the proposed housing, equivalent to 163 homes, for affordable housing to cater to the local housing demand. Community engagement exercises have identified the need for new community facilities, including a GP service, which will be incorporated into the masterplan. The development will also feature open spaces, parklands, sports pitches, play areas, and a community garden, with almost half of the total development area being retained and enhanced.
Gary Smith, executive director at Hallam Land, stressed the importance of engaging with local residents and stakeholders to ensure that the masterplan aligns with the community’s needs. By focusing on community facilities and active travel links, the project aims to create a connected neighborhood where residents can easily access amenities by walking or cycling.
Smith expressed eagerness to move forward with the project, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the local community by providing much-needed housing options and supporting economic growth. This development not only addresses the housing shortage but also aims to create a thriving neighborhood that enhances the livelihoods of residents.
