The Glasgow International Comedy Festival is set to return in 2025 with a star-studded lineup featuring some of the biggest names in comedy. Headliners include the likes of Frankie Boyle, Susie McCabe, and Christopher MacArthur-Boyd, who will be performing their popular ‘Here Comes The Guillotine’ podcast live on stage for the first time in Glasgow.
In addition to the podcast show, the festival will also feature headline performances from Val McDermid and Nicola Sturgeon, as well as Jimeoin, Russell Kane, and many more. With over 560 shows scheduled for the 2024 festival, the 2025 edition promises even more big names and exciting acts.
Susie McCabe, one of the hosts of ‘Here Comes The Guillotine’, expressed her excitement about performing in her hometown and trying something different from traditional stand-up comedy. The festival will showcase a wide range of comedy genres, including stand-up, live podcasts, clowning, improv, theatre, kid shows, musicals, and more, catering to audiences of all ages.
Val McDermid and Nicola Sturgeon will have their own joint show titled ‘Books and Banter’, where they will discuss their favorite books and be joined by special guests. The duo emphasized the magic of books and how reading has brought them together as friends.
Other highlights of the festival include performances by rising stars like Connor Burns, Joe Kent-Walter, and Kathleen Hughes, as well as acclaimed comedians like Jimeoin and Jamali Maddix. Festival organizers anticipate a record-breaking year with over 175 shows already confirmed, 21 venues registered, and 10,000 tickets sold.
Festival Director Krista MacDonald expressed her excitement for the upcoming event, calling Glasgow the funniest city in the world. She encouraged aspiring comedians to get involved and participate in the festival, which promises to be a jam-packed 19 days of non-stop laughter and entertainment.
Glasgow Life Chair, Bailie Annette Christie, praised the festival as a beloved gem in the city’s cultural calendar, showcasing both established comedians and local talent. With venues like The King’s Theatre, Oran Mor, and The Stand Comedy Club set to host events, the 2025 festival is expected to be one of the biggest and best yet.
