glasgows-hielanmans-umbrella-renovation-what-to-expect

So, like, apparently they’re gonna start working on sprucing up Hielanman’s Umbrella at Glasgow Central Station in August or something. The place is gonna get a whole new vibe from the 1950s, with shopfronts getting a facelift, new lighting, and maybe even some cool neon art inspired by the signs from back in the day.

The iconic Central Station sign is also getting a makeover with a new font, and they’re thinking of adding the Gaelic word for umbrella, ‘An Sgàilean’, or maybe just ‘Scotland’s Railway’. The font they’re considering is supposed to look like something straight outta the 1950s.

And get this, they’re taking into account the homeless folks who use the space too. I guess they got some feedback during a consultation, so they wanna make sure the designs are sympathetic to them.

Network Rail is gonna handle the project once they hire a contractor, and the council is gonna chip in some cash to make it happen. The councillors got an update on the whole revamp thing at a committee meeting last week as part of the city centre strategy report.

Councillor Anthony Carroll was all like, “How does this tie in with the Argyle Street Avenues project?” at the city policy committee meeting. And some official was like, “Work on the Hielanman’s Umbrella is starting in August, and the Avenues project should be wrapping up around the same time. We’re keeping an eye on both projects and making sure they work together or whatever.”

The committee also got a progress report on the city centre strategy, outlining all the work that’s going down. So yeah, it looks like things are gonna get pretty fancy under that railway bridge soon. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!
