Lomond: The Wholesale Food Co, a food wholesaler based in Glasgow, has recently made a significant move to boost its growth ambitions by acquiring Clarks Speciality Foods, a firm that supplies some of Scotland’s most prestigious hotels. This acquisition is part of Lomond’s strategy to expand its presence in the high-end hotel and restaurant sector in Scotland.
Clarks Speciality Foods, based in Penicuik and established 25 years ago, is known for supplying top-tier destinations such as Gleneagles, the Balmoral Hotel, Skibo Castle, and Glen App Castle, as well as farm shops, delicatessens, and caterers. By acquiring Clarks, Lomond aims to enhance its service offerings and cater to a wider customer base with quality food products.
Sam Henderson, the managing director of Lomond, expressed his excitement about the acquisition, highlighting Clarks’ expertise in the sector and their commitment to exceptional customer service. The deal will not only increase Lomond’s turnover but also create a strong foundation for future growth, with a target of hitting £90 million turnover by 2028.
In addition to the acquisition, Lomond recently expanded its headquarters in Glasgow, doubling its storage capacity to accommodate up to 4,000 pallets. The company’s sustainability objectives were also addressed through the addition of roof space for solar panels and electric charging points for their fleet of electric cars, bringing them closer to their net zero goal. Lomond is also working towards becoming B-Corp accredited, emphasizing their commitment to responsible business practices.
Having been in business for 28 years, Lomond initially focused on serving the lunchtime market but has since diversified into various sectors such as food wholesale, education, convenience food-to-go, cafes, hotels, and restaurants across the UK. The company’s bakery, Cake, supplies products to wholesalers who distribute to major retailers like Tesco and Dunelm, further expanding their reach in the market.
Overall, Lomond’s acquisition of Clarks Speciality Foods represents a strategic move towards growth and expansion in the competitive food industry. By combining their resources and expertise, the two companies are poised to deliver exceptional products and services to their customers while driving sustainable practices for the future.
