One of Edinburgh’s most iconic hotels, The Witchery by James Thomson, is marking its 45th anniversary with the opening of a new shop in the heart of Old Town. The shop, located on Castlehill opposite The Witchery’s renowned restaurants, aims to provide guests with a unique retail experience that reflects Thomson’s dedication to preserving historic spaces and creating unforgettable moments.
General manager Steven Allam expressed his excitement about the new shop, stating that it adds a new dimension to The Witchery’s offerings while staying true to its heritage of excellence and commitment to sustainability. Just like the hotel’s restaurants, the shop will showcase the best of Scottish craftsmanship and creativity, supporting local artisans and traditional skills.
Visitors can expect to find exclusive products such as tartan and tweed by Scottish designer Araminta Campbell, as well as bespoke leather luggage from Mackenzie Leather. Additionally, guests can purchase items featured in The Witchery’s dining rooms, including specialty tea, champagne, whisky, gin, and chocolates.
The shop also boasts a hidden room lined with The Witchery’s tartan and decorated with stag antlers, offering a magical setting for storytelling, whisky tastings, and exclusive experiences. Owner James Thomson shared his childhood inspiration for owning a shop and expressed his delight in bringing this vision to life at The Witchery, allowing guests to take a piece of the hotel’s unique charm home with them.
