A restaurant in East Kilbride that was forced to close after a fire in January is set to reopen this week. The Orient will officially be back in business from 12 noon on Wednesday, May 21, following an extensive restoration process post the blaze earlier this year. The restaurant had only opened in late 2024 before the fire wreaked havoc on the building in January. Emergency services rushed to the scene at 17-21 Westwood Square, with neighboring businesses also being affected, although thankfully no injuries were reported.

The owners of the restaurant have been working tirelessly over the past few months to repair the damage and restore the venue to its former glory. Now, with refreshed interiors, the pan-Asian style restaurant is ready to welcome back the public once more this week. Co-owner Mohammed Abdallah expressed his deep emotional connection to the restaurant, stating, “This restaurant is more than a business to me, it’s a piece of my heart, a reflection of every risk taken, every late night, every ounce of belief. Losing it so soon after opening was devastating. But we chose not to dwell in the ashes, we chose to rise from them. Rebuilding this place has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done… and also the most rewarding. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who stood by us, and I can’t wait to open these doors again – not just as a restaurant, but as a symbol of resilience, community, and heart.”

Renowned Scottish chef in London restaurant residency — not really sure why this matters, but it seems like a big deal to someone. Scotland’s most gorgeous farm shops to visit – with superb walks nearby — maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this is a great idea for a weekend getaway. The reopening of The Orient is a testament to the perseverance and determination of the owners, showcasing their unwavering commitment to their passion for the restaurant industry. The community is eagerly anticipating the return of this beloved establishment, ready to support and enjoy the delicious offerings once again.
